SWIMMING POOL SAFETY – reduce the risk of child drownings
Swimming pool safety is the responsibility of every pool owner, especially when there are children near a pool. Once a toddler has lost the fear of water, pool safety becomes vital; a child can drown in 5cm of water. Children around pools should never be left unattended. A pool can provide hours of fun in the garden, so it is worth having swimming pool safety so it doesn't become a pool of worry.
You should always observe the following swimming pool safety tips if you have a pool -
- constant supervision when children are around your pool;
- teach your children to swim;
- learn basic water safety training, including rescue methods;
- illuminate the interior of the pool and the area around it for night time swimming;
- consider installing a childproof safety fence around the perimeter of the pool;
- take precautions by restricting access to your pool when no one is around. Install an alarm system to alert you when someone enters the pool area. We have two models of swimming pool alarms available for swimming pool safety : the pool protector is an “L” shaped pool alarm which can be mounted to the edge of your pool and has two alarms; one on the unit in the pool and the other on the remote sensor in the house. The other one, the Child Guard is an alarm with a fish or dolphin wrist band and a remote senor. The wristband is activated as soon as it makes contact with water and your child will not be able to remove it from the wrist.
