IN-GROUND POOLS – GOING PERMANENT

These days in-ground pools can be just about any shape or size imagined and can range from the tiniest to huge and elaborate. It is common knowledge that in-ground pools are more expensive than those above the ground, but they offer greater variety in design. If your swimming pool sets you backand you can no longer afford your holiday, you can create a paradise in your back yard by planting palms, and with rock features and a bit of an imagination, you can believe that you have taken a holiday to a tropical island.

When deciding on an in-ground pool, there are several factors to consider:

  • cost is the most important – can you afford it?
  • The shape – for what purpose do you want it
  • size – do you need it just for sheer enjoyment, or are you desperately trying to get into the Olympics? Before making a decision, therefore, determine the main activity of your pool. Thinking about what its to be used for is the key to building the best pool.

Firstly, a hole must be dug where there are no existing underground wires that you know of, as well as being away from trees and shrubs that drop berries in continuously. The presence of underground pipes or cables will impact the pool's location. Once the hole has been dug, your in-ground pool will finally start to emerge once the wiring and lines for the filter are installed.

Next, the pool wall or frames are installed. Gunite is when they use a sprayed concrete mix and an additional coating to create the wall and floor. Gunite and concrete pools both require a framing wall that can be constructed of strong materials such as reinforced concrete or steel, while fibre glass pools don't need a framing structure as the whole pre-made fiberglass pool is just simply put into the hole. Of course, if it is raining for weeks on end, then the installation of an in-ground pool could take much longer than was once envisaged. A fiberglass pools usually takes about 3 – 6 days to install.
