Salt water chlorinators for pools

How do salt water chlorinators work?  There is an inline cell which is installed in the piping and power box, and as the pool pump causes the water to flow, the water is pushed through the inline cell and the salt in the water is changed into sodium hypo chloride. The pools water should be tested regularly for salinity, as a low salt content can cause damage to the chlorinator cell. The amount of salt added is determined by the size of the pool.

Your normal water balance must still be maintained for salt water chlorinators for pools to work correctly. The pH is as important as a chlorine pool. The Hypochlorous acid is more effective at a lower pH so salt water pools need to receive shock treatment  to prevent the build up of bacteria that can become resistant to low levels of chlorine.
