Salt Water Pools

Salt water pools, first introduced in Australia in the 1960's are becoming particularly popular now because of the benefits – the feel of the water is much nicer to your skin, no more irritated eyes and salt water pools save some money for the consumer too. Salt water swimming pools are becoming a widely accepted method of water treatment in swimming pools.
Are salt water swimming pools the same as swimming in the sea? Not quite, because chlorine is still present; its just that the levels are a lot lower. The chlorine produced by a salt water system has very positive ph, reducing eye and skin irritations.
The chlorine generator’s main function is to produce chlorine for the pool so you don't have to buy it, and through the process of electrolysis, water passing over the chlorine generator cell produces chlorine that is changed into Hypochlorous acid. The acid is the active sanitizer; killing algae and other harmful stuff.
The only time that having a salt system in your pool can harm your pool equipment is in a runaway chlorine environment when the unit isn't operated properly or if water isn't tested and balanced regularly, but apart from the initial setup cost, there are no disadvantages in salt water pools; the advantage comes from not having to worry about constantly having to handle chlorine as well as taking a more environmentally friendly approach to pool sanitization.
